I feel deeply honoured and privileged to have been elected unanimously as the President of Indian Brachytherapy Society. My sincere thanks to every member of IBS for posing this kind of trust in me. I am very fortunate to have this opportunity and to serve this organisation. Our new team will try to live up to the expectations of the IBS. We are grateful to the founders of the IBS and previous office bearers for taking the society to a this height. It will be a challenge for our new team, but the commitment and determination of this team will certainly take the IBS to greater heights.
As we all know, brachytherapy is the mother of all the conformal radiation therapy techniques. It is the perfect example of a cancer treatment modality with combination of science and art. It’s full therapeutic potential is yet to be explored. Best way to exploit its potential is to spread the knowledge and specially the practical skill among the radiation oncologists. Our dynamic team plan to bring some of the following changes to further strengthen the IBS. 1) A website is the face of any scientific organisation, and therefore we need to re-vitalize the IBS website. 2) To consolidate the membership drive as there are several radiation oncology colleagues, though practicing brachytherapy, but yet to become members. 3) To encourage IBS members to organise frequent workshops/symposia/conferences in the areas where brachytherapy is under-utilised.
We are really excited to embark on this new challenging role and very confident that new office bearers will take the IBS to greater level.
